What's Involved

Kurnai Young Parents Program is a safe and flexible learning option located on the grounds of Federation University in Churchill.

KYPP currently operates 4 days a week – Monday to Thursday, 10:00am – 2:00pm.

It is hoped that the course is completed over 1-2 years, however if age requirements are met this can be extended.

Students are also required to undertake a minimum of 180 hours of VET units of competencies.

KYPP is offered at no cost to eligible students subject to meeting attendance requirements. All school fees, childcare, stationery and travel costs will be covered by Commonwealth childcare subsidies and Kurnai College.

In order to be eligible for childcare costs to be completely covered under the program, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Be under the age of 21 as of the 1st of January in the year they commence the program
  • Be in receipt of or eligible for Centrelink Parenting/Family payments and Child Care Benefit
  • Meet eligibility requirements for Centrelink Jobs, Education and Training Childcare fee assistance
